Music Monday – Ne me quitte pas (don’t leave me)

This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek. Pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday.  Special thanks to the lovely Nina from The Cozy Pages for introducing me to this cool meme.

I absolutely love this song. I’ve loved it for a very long time, since I first learned French, oh so many years ago.  The original is sung by Jacque Brel.  Although I love the original version, this one makes me so happy.  I love the beat developed throughout and the passionate longing, melancholy is so strong still, maybe more so.  This modern version suits me very well, indeed.  Also, I cry every time I hear this song.  I can’t help it.  Even if it is not me begging “don’t leave me”, I can feel the pain behind the lyrics.  Powerful.

Wyclef Jean, is a U.S. transplant via Haiti, raised in Brooklyn, New York.  He is a very talented rapper artist who also plays guitar.  Crazy amazing.  His being able to sing in French, is the icing on the cake.  I quite like his style and his hip, passionate rendition of this French classic.  So cool!  Breathe sighs all around.  Hope you like it too.

Happy Monday!

  1. OMG, I had zero expectations on this. That means numb, slate clean, not negative, not positive… so I’m listening….
And it was fantastic! I loved this, and I loved it in (mostly) French especially! A great choice, and I have some exploring to do. But after I’ve kissed you, Ima listen to some Wyclef.
